Flights
The main international airports in Honduras are located in Tegucigulpa, San Pedro Sula and Roatan. International flights to/from Tegucigulpa, San Pedro Sula and Roatan operate daily to/from USA airports of Miami (American Airlines), Houston (Continental Airlines), Atlanta (Delta) and Ft Lauderdale (Spirit Air).
To avoid complications in connecting flights and lost luggage, international visitors to Roatan tend to fly direct. Flying into San Pedro Sula and then taking the connecting flight via La Ceiba to Roatan with Aerolineas SOSA can be more problematic. Tegucigalpa is even less easily attempted.
If you are traveling through the mainland to Roatan and need to spend the night in La Ceiba I recommend the Banana Republic Guesthouse and Hostel Guacamayas for clean and inexpensive shared rooms. You do not normally need a reservation, but during holiday seasons they may be full. While most of the taxi drivers do not speak English, they do know the names of the Hostels.
The taxi fare from La Ceiba Airport to La Ceiba center Hotels is 200 – 350 lempiras ($11 - $19) depending upon the time of day, number of passengers, amount of luggage, etc.
Ferry to Roatan
All the taxi drivers in La Ceiba know how to get to the Muelle de Cabotage (the docks) in La Ceiba. This is where the Galaxy Ferry to Roatan departs; just ask them to take you to Galaxy Ferry. It takes about 10 minutes and costs 50 - 100 lempira based on the number of passengers.
When you arrive at the Galaxy Dock, assuming you have made a reservation, we will be there to pick you up.
